Overview

This program is for intermediate climbers interested in a rocky, exposed ridge climb to the crown jewel of the Selkirk Mountains, Mt Sir Donald. Our three day itinerary helps develop the skills to move quickly and efficiently on a rope in rocky alpine terrain, then attempt the spectacular climb of the NW ridge of Mt Sir Donald.

Two Day Mt Sir Donald Skills and Climb

 

  • Day 1- Mid morning start: Meet and check gear, discuss climbing plans etc. Hike into Mt Sir Donald Camp 4-6hrs, tent camping or bivouac under the stars in the basin below the mountain, exceptional views of glaciers and high Selkirks
  • Day 2- Alpine start: Climb Mt Sir Donald (1:1 Ratio), descend to Asulkan trailhead 10-16hrs.

Required Skills: Moderate to Strong physical fitness. Mt Sir Donald requires a minimum of 8-12 hours of moderate exertion at higher altitude. Not sure of your ability level? Start with a single day scramble to warm up to the more technical routes. Weather alternatives: many scrambles and less technical objectives can be substituted as can lower elevation technical multi-pitch rock climbing options. Options for overnight hut trips and/or tent based camps.
