A blue day with the summit of Mt Mackenzie above

Now Booking winter 2016-2017 trips with Revelstoke Backcountry Guides

Overview

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is like no other ski area in the world. Three chairlifts access 5,600ft/1700m+ of vertical relief, 3000+ acres of in-bounds terrain, 600+ inches of annual snowfall and unlimited backcountry. Touring days from RMR are fantastic when the famously productive and reliable winter storms hammer the Selkirks.

Itinerary

The lifts open at 0830 and we’ll plan on spending a full day out in the backcountry. We’ll use the Revelation Gondola and the Stoke Chair to whisk us up to 2225m. From here, we’ll say goodbye to the lifts and spend the day exploring the backcountry stashes of Selkirk powder. While there are some options for “off-piste” type runs, the real goods are found using skins and touring gear.

A fun couloir in the RMR backcountry

Terrain

The terrain around RMR consists of pillows, cliffs, chutes, couloirs and amazing old growth tree skiing. On a clear day there is also some fantastic alpine bowl skiing, but powder is the main attraction here. Being cone shaped, Revelstoke’s Mount Mackenzie offers all aspects around the compass which allows us to take advantage of the best snow conditions.

Highlights

  • Chairlift assisted backcountry skiing
  • Amazing tree skiing
  • Splitboard friendly
  • Combine with Rogers Pass touring programs
